Work to build war memorial for Handforth gets underway

Work is now underway to build a war memorial in Handforth, located on the grass verge off Wilmslow Road.

The trustees of the Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation (HCWMF), which was established in November 2014, were on site on Tuesday, 20th October, for the turning the first sod.

Work on the foundations for the Handforth's War Memorial then started on Thursday, 22nd October and are being completed this week.

Anthony Harrison, Chairman of Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation, said "The project is moving along extremely well and we still remain on task and on schedule to have a short blessing of the ground and wreath laying at the site on Remembrance Sunday, 8th November."

He added "An official ceremony to officiate the memorial will take place towards the end of November 2015."

The Handforth Memorial be located on the open space, 15m wide grass verge that separates the main carriageway off Wilmslow Road and will be accessed via a York stone path.

Do you know they were called Peace Memorials after WW1? A much better name.

Really pleased to see this going ahead - especially on the fact that it is to be placed in a prominent position.
