A choir of sixty singers from all over Cheshire and beyond enjoyed a day of choral music at St. Bartholomew's Church on Saturday, 12th September.
Under the guidance of Stephen Cleobury, the celebrated organist and director of the world famous choir of King's College Cambridge, the day proved to be a true vocal workout, culminating in a evening concert of music spanning six centuries.
Dr Cleobury was invited to Wilmslow by a former BBC Singers colleague, Anna Meadmore, who said "We were amazed and delighted that Stephen agreed to direct the Singing Day, and even more honoured that he offered to play three organ pieces, as part of our fund raising effort towards the restoration of the church organ."
With Philip Underwood and George Herbert also providing organ accompaniments, and George and his sister Emily playing trumpet, the whole day was a triumph and raised well over £1000.
Khumi Tonsing Burton added "This is part of the ongoing events which is happening at St. Bartholomew's Church. Under the guidance of Philip Underwood, Music Director of St. Barts, whose enthusiasm has no boundaries .. we hope everyone will come and
continue to support the enjoyable events he will be organising in the future. Without your help and support we cannot refurbish the much needed work which has to be carried out on Oscar, the Organ."
