Age UK Cheshire East and Independent Living Service on Dean Row have teamed up to offer a free iTea and Chat event for over 50s living locally.

According to Age UK's research 60% of people aged 65+ have never been on the internet, but rather than lack of interest the main barriers are lack of understanding and confidence.

The iTea and Chat drop-in session will take place from 10am to 2pm at the Independent Living Service on Dean Row Road, SK9 2HA on Friday, 2nd October when local people will be able to find out about new technology through taster sessions. Volunteers will be available to help people who have never used the internet get started and find out what it has to offer.

Members of the public are free to bring along their own tablet or smart phone if they have questions they would like answered and there will be equipment there on the day for people to try out.

There will also be free coffee and cakes, the opportunity to have a look around the Independent Living Services, including a range of equipment to help people stay independent at home, and a free prize draw for all visitors.

Staff from the new service called Life Links will also be present on the day, with a wide range of information about what services, groups and activities are available in the area.

Dominic Anderson, Deputy chief Executive of Age UK Cheshire East said, "It will be a fun day for people to come along either to make the most of their new technology or to give it a go for the first time. We know from experience that learning to use online shopping or using Skype to stay in touch with family can have a transformational effect on older people's lives, so we hope that many people will drop-in on the day to find out more."

This is a drop-in event so there is no need to register in advance.
