Planning permission has been granted for the erection of a war memorial on the grass verge off Wilmslow Road in Handforth to honour serving residents who fell in battle.
The application from Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation (HCWMF), which was established in November 2014 by a group of eight trustees, is to locate Handforth's war memorial on the 15m wide grass verge that separates the main carriageway of Wilmslow Road (B5358) from its side branch.
The memorial stone and its base will have a total height of 4.5m. It will be accessed by a 7m York stone path with a square paved area around the base of the memorial, which will be contained either by chains hung between stone bollards or a low, decorative metal fence.
Anthony Harrison, Chairman of Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation, said "The trustees are proud to have received planning permission for the site on the grass verge of Wilmslow Road and would like to thank all of the residents for their support throughout the process and the time they have taken to summit their comments. We look forward to continuing our work and remain on task with our objective."
