Indian restaurant told their new construction must go

The owners of an Indian restaurant in the town centre have been instructed to remove an outdoor seating area which was erected last week.

An officer from Cheshire East Council hand delivered a letter to Swadesh on Green Lane today, Thursday 28th May, instructing them to take the construction down.

Cllr Rod Menlove explained "The design is contrary to planning policy. Retrospective permission is therefore not an option.

"As a point of interest, there is a permission for decking (11/0010m) on this part of the site but a separate application needs to be made for an acceptable design."

Cllr Menlove added "In my opinion it is such a mess of a bodged construction of nil design that the sooner it goes the better."

Work on the outdoor seating area, which is made out of pallets, began on Wednesday, 20th May, and has been painted grey since I took the above photo.

We have received numerous complaints from local residents who have described the construction as an eyesore, fire hazard and looking like a shanty town.

Our Facebook page received dozens of comments, with many describing it as horrendous, shocking and a joke, whilst some readers were in favour of the development saying it was cool and "exactly what Wilmslow needs".

They should modify the interior to match the exterior to see what it does for their popularity.

Adds a bit of character but is a bit of a fire hazard!

You wonder what was going through the owners mind on this one.

Not much it seems.
