Piano festival coming to St Barts

A Wilmslow church is hosting a piano festival with recitals taking place on Saturdays throughout February.

As part of St. Bartholomew's Piano Festival there will be performances on Saturday 14th, 21st and 28th February at 2pm. Admission is £4 and all the proceeds from the recitals will go to the Oscar The Organ Appeal, the church's campaign to raise £250,000 for the restoration of its pipe organ.

Organist Philip Underwood explained "The purpose of the piano festival is 3 fold: to raise money in a creative way for the Oscar The Organ Fund; to give performing opportunities to talented young musicians and as part of the Arts at St Bart's scheme, to encourage a sense of community coherence through an appreciation of the creative arts."

Ewa Tytman, Rachel Fok and Chiahu Lee, three young pianists from the Royal Northern College of Music, are taking part in the festival.

The Oscar The Organ Appeal fund has already received £7,000 in donations to help refurbish "Oscar the Organ", which celebrates its 149th birthday this year.
