Residents of Handforth are being invited to have their say on plans to provide the village centre with a memorial to honour serving residents who fell in battle.

Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation, which was established in November 2014 by eight local residents, is inviting people to attend one of two public consultation events on Saturday, 24th January.

The foundation has now developed into a fully functional campaign team which meets on a regular basis and is planning to deliver a War memorial within 12 months.

They intend to canvass local residents in order to choose an agreed design and to raise the required funds for the construction and maintenance of the memorial.

Fundraising initiatives to date include a two-day event held by The Mercian Regiment in memory of their fallen colleague and friend Lance Corporal Jamie Webb which raised just over £1000 and the 23 Wilmslow ACF Cadets who recently raised £32 from a cake sale.

Councillor Anthony Harrison, Chairman of Handforth Community War Memorial Foundation, said "The trustees would like to thank the Webb family for assisting to organise this event and to Luke Webb for his considerable work and research into the fallen heroes from Handforth."

The public consultations on Saturday, 24th January, will take place from 11am to 12noon at St Chad's Church and from 1pm to 2pm at Wilmslow Grange Primary School.
