Police operation targets criminals and promotes road safety

Wilmslow Neighbourhood Police Unit ran a roads policing and crime operation in Wilmslow and Handforth on Friday, 10th October.

As a result one vehicle was seized as it had no tax, and had not been taxed for a number of weeks, and seven people were caught using their mobile phone.

Fifteen other traffic offences were detected including failing to wear a seatbelt, not displaying number plates properly and trailers not being connected properly. One male was dealt with for a drugs offence.

Sgt 3473 Paul Mace said "The operation was mounted by local officers using the latest automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology.

"The overreaching aims of the operation are to deny criminals the use of our roads and also to promote road safety through both education and enforcement of legislation."

Sgt Mace added "The operation isn't a one off, we will continue to use every means at our disposal to make our roads even safer for the public whilst making them a perilous place for those wishing to come to Cheshire to commit crime."

Just how many officers were involved in this exercise in attempting to deny criminals the use of our roads. All this does is encourage criminals to ensure they are driving legally whilst going about their business which is no bad thing! Just how many serious criminals did our boys in blue apprehend? How many hundreds of innocent people going about their everyday business were inconvenienced? Perhaps a little drive around ticketing or removing illegally parked vehicles would be more productive.

I wonder if they managed to drag themselves round to the Stanley green area?
