Fire and rescue crews from Cheshire and Manchester dealt with a fire involving a takeaway food outlet on Twinnies Road at 11.14 this morning.

Five fire engines initially attended the incident at the Mayflower where firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters, six wearing breathing apparatus, entered the flat above the takeaway to ventilate the property which was full of smoke. They also checked adjacent properties to ensure there was no fire or smoke spread. All gas and electricity supplies to the building were isolated.

Two fire engines were released as three remained at the scene to carry out salvage operations. Crews removed a cooking range and one female casualty was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
