Shortly after midday on Thursday, 17th July, police received a report from a member of the public of a teenager who was carrying what appeared to be a sword in a holster.

A police spokesperson said "The teenager, a male believed to be around 18 - 19 years of age, went into wooded area off Old Road, Handforth. Officers, supported by the police helicopter, made a thorough search of the area, but found no trace of the male.

"During this period, and as a precautionary measure only, a local school kept children inside during the lunchtime recess period.
