A very moving service to mark the Centenary of WW1 was held on Saturday, 28th June, at St Bartholomew's Church. The service was conducted by Rev Magdalen Smith and Rev John Lees and organised by Khumi Burton on behalf of the Wilmslow Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Local singer and resident Anna Bernardin sang part of the 'For the Fallen' to the congregation which included officials from the Royal British Legion, Wilmslow Town Councillors and the Mayor and Mayoress of East Cheshire Council.

The event was supported by Wilmslow Historical Society, Wilmslow Green Room, Combined Charity Card Shops as well as the Guides, Scouts, Air Cadets and local residents.

Cadets Grace O'Mara and Louis Collins gave the readings whilst Simon Taylor, bugler from the Alderley District Scout Band, played the Last Post.

The committee of the Royal British Legion Wilmslow Branch would like to thank all those who attended the Service and say a huge thank you to the anonymous supporter who made the printing of the service book possible.

Khumi Burton said "Let us remind ourselves and not forget that the sacrifices made by so many in the First World War and the subsequent wars that followed which unfortunately is still happening now has made our world a more stable world for us to live in.

"As you knows – RBL and the Poppy Appeal tries to help the armed forces families as much as one can. The Poppy Appeal is only in October and November of each year but the needs of the armed forces families are not just confined to the 2 months but they and their families need help throughout the year. .. . so please think of them."

Khumi added "The Royal British Legion spends £1.6 million per week on support for our armed forces both past and present and their families."
