A student from Wilmslow is going to climb Mt Kilimanjaro to raise money for Hope for Children and make a difference to the lives of street children in East Africa.
Sarah Hindle, 20, will depart on July 2nd and over the course of two memorable weeks, she will climb to the Roof of Africa via the Machame summit route. After completing this challenge of a lifetime, Sarah will have the opportunity to visit one of the projects she will be helping to support.
She will be going to Kisenye, a slum area in the Kampala district of Uganda where the money she raises will be going and is particularly important to Sarah as her mum was born in Kampala.
Sarah is currently studying Neuroscience and Medical Physics at University College London and so far she has raised £2175 from street collections, tutoring maths and science, bake sales and open mike nights. Her target is £2990.
Sarah told wilmslow.co.uk "By taking part in this challenge, I am becoming part of the Kilimanjaro Legacy. This means I am not just raising funds in the name of Hope for Children; during the project visit, I will be seeing first-hand the impact of my fundraising by talking to the inspirational staff and volunteers of HOPE's partners, as well as meeting the children who need our help.
"By the end of this incredible journey, I will have raised vital funds for street children, completed an incredible challenge, and developed a real and tangible understanding of a project that gives children the opportunity to reach their full potential."
Hope for Children aims to create a world where children's rights are realised and they can reach their full potential. The charity exists to help orphaned, poor, exploited and other marginalised children in developing countries and in the UK.
Sarah added "There are millions of children across the world who do not have enough food to eat every day, who do not attend school, live in slums or on the streets, suffer from untreated diseases, are abused and mistreated, never get the opportunities we take for granted and often die early. These children have no one to turn to. Over the last 20 years Hope for Children have been working tirelessly to support these children."
