Thai restaurant plans for new alfresco dining area

A Wilmslow restaurant is applying to redevelop and extend the opening hours for their alfresco dining area.

Chilli Banana are seeking planning permission to create a covered outside dining area on the roof terrace, which will allow 'alfresco dining' in all weathers.

The proposed scheme includes a powder coated aluminum frame with an insulated retractable fabric roof and fabric side awnings with transparent plastic centres. A frameless glass balustrade will form a safety barrier.

The proposed exterior alterations are within the existing building boundary of 71, Water Lane.

The existing planning constraints restrict the opening of the outside area to 6pm. The proposals seek to change the opening hours to 11pm.

After nearly 20 years of running a restaurant adjoined to The Kings Arms pub, May and Steve Wakefield relocated to the Water Lane property, previously occupied by Fellicini, in November 2013.

The plans for Chilli Banana can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning application 14/2388M.

The deadline for submitting comments is 3rd July and a decision is expected by 25th July.

What a great idea. I hope that Steve & May can produce Thailand temperatures in there if the evening turns chilly as it has a habit of doing. Hope they get it, but I will bring my "pully"~just in case!

Good plan for Wilmslow. Be a first and must be good for foot fall on Water Lane. Other businesses can benefit.

An application such as this was refused some years ago because of one objection from a granny flat occupier who assumed the diners would spy on them!!!

Great idea, I hope Steve secures permission. However, we tried to sit outside the Macclesfield Chilli Banana last summer only to be told they don't serve food outdoors as we might be inclined to send our food back if flies were to land on it.... I assume Steve feels confident the good people of Wilmslow won't be trying to pull that stunt! :)
