Nearly 600 compete in Wilmslow Triathlon

The Wilmslow Triathlon, which took place for the 8th time on Sunday 11th May, saw just under 600 athletes bracing the wet and challenging weather conditions.

The race is one of the most popular sprint distance triathlons in the region, attracting athletes of all levels.

Paul Hawkins from Knutsford Triathlon Club, winner of the very first Wilmslow Triathlon back in 2007, won the men's race in a time of 01:07:07. Second out of the water he took the lead on the bike and continued to extend it, finishing in an excellent time. Lewis Eccleston (Astley & Tyldesley Road Runners) came second in a time of 01:08:48 and Simon Parker (SCARAB Tri Club) secured 3rd place in 01:09:28.

The women's race was won by Rachel Hall from Manchester Triathlon Club in 01:18:32 after clearly dominating the field and clocking the fastest times in all three disciplines. Club mate Rebecca Brand was the runner up in 01:20:32 and U20 triathlete Lucy Scott from Knutsford Triathlon Club claimed 3rd place after putting in a superb performance and crossing the finish line in a time of 01:21:38.

The Wilmslow Triathlon is based at the Wilmslow Leisure Centre with the 400m swim taking place in the 5 lane 25m indoor pool, followed by a picturesque and mainly flat 24.2 km cycle ride around the Cheshire countryside and a 6.3km run around East Wilmslow's leafy roads.
