An Amber warning for severe weather has been issued by The Met Office covering North West England, North East England, Wales, Yorkshire and Humber.

Another band of heavy rain and gales hit on Boxing Day evening and overnight, leaving 13,000 homes in the UK without power.

Hundreds of trains and flights were cancelled, trees were brought down by gale force winds and over 50 flood warnings have been issued - with Ireland, Wales, Northern Scotland and the South East being the worst hit areas.

Cheshire East Highways have been dealing with 20 fallen trees this morning.

People are urged to take care as a very windy day is forecast with widespread gales, severe at times. It is expected to remain windy with occasional heavy showers this evening although there will be some clear periods.

Saturday is expected to be a bright day with sunny spells, but with showers at times, and turning cold later.
