Orange spray to highlight dog fouling

A new initiative to help keep the streets clean of dog mess is set to be launched in Wilmslow.

The Town Council has agreed to purchase cans of aerosol spray and stencils so the pavements can be spray painted with a no fouling message, which will wash off in the rain.

Members agreed to allocate £259 to cover the cost of a dozen cans of the orange spray and stencils, which will be handed out to the Wilmslow Clean Team as and when required.

It is hoped that this initiative, which has apparently been a success in other areas of the country, will embarrass irresponsible dog-owners into cleaning up after their pets.

If the message washes off in the rain, what's the point?

If the message stayed there even after the earth is consumed by the sun, these selfish irresponsible types who think it's fine to leave dog mess right where their pet deposits it will still take no notice. It's just the type of person they are.

Is this for real? Would it not be a better idea to spend the money on a permanent solution like dog waste bins? Rather than a temporary solution using rather expensive water soluble paint!

The maximum fixed penalty is £50 with the fine going up to £1000 if not paid within 14 days, is the only legal weapon we have against these less than responsible pet owners. However, it may be a further incentive for those persistent offenders, to maybe have a picture of them alongside their pooch, displayed on council notice boards to name and shame them? Maybe we can also show it on this fine online news service as well.

How will the police collect sufficient evidence to convict?

I know Wilmslow likes to be a bit different, but I hadn't realised the dogs could read.

Why not spray the dog owners with the paint so we know that they are guilty!

I believe that although the paint is water soluble / washable, it will in fact take a few weeks for it to wash away.

These schemes have been run in other areas across the country with a lot of success, the amount of dog mess left uncollected was noticeably reduced.
