Major roadworks will commence in the town centre tomorrow which are expected to cause delays for the next few weeks.
Works to upgrade the traffic signals at the A538 Water Lane junction of Alderley Road will commence on Thursday, 12th September, for three weeks.
These works are necessary to enable the existing traffic signal equipment to be renewed due to a signal cable fault, which has resulted in the loss of audible devices, requiring the junction to be re-cabled. At the same time most of the traffic signal poles, which are seriously corroded, will be replaced.
Works will involve excavation of the carriageway and footway in order to replace the outdated signal equipment and temporary 3-way lights, with pedestrian crossing facilities, will be in use for the full duration of the works.
A spokesperson for Cheshire East Highways said "We have received further representation to move the traffic signal upgrade to the October school holidays. However following a review of this request, it was decided that the works need to be expedite at the earliest time available as the audible feature on this crossing requires renewing as part of the upgrade.
"As always we will be working with our sub-contractor to ensure the impact to the local traffic flow is minimised."

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
the main trouble is not that they are completing the works not during school holidays, because the roads are actually a little quieter.
They should be doing these works at hyperspeed during the night, when there's no traffic to disrupt.
Happy Days Ahead
