Youngsters enjoy first day of school

Hundreds of youngsters from Wilmslow and the surrounding area embarked on a new chapter in their lives last week as the schools reopened after the summer break.

The big day arrived for reception children who put on their new school uniform for their first day at school.

Teachers welcomed the children to their new classrooms and reassured a few anxious parents.

Reception children started at Lindow Primary School on Tuesday, 3rd September, where they had a full compliment of 30 children start, including three sets of twins.

Class teacher Rachel Pengelly said "We had a few tears on the first morning, mainly from the mums! I fully understand their concerns as my own 4 year old daughter started school this week too."

Headteacher Darren Morgan added "Everyone has settled in brilliantly and I'm sure they will make a great contribution to our school."

The reception class joined St Benedict's Catholic Primary School on Wednesday, 4th September, where headmistress Mrs Gornell said "They have enjoyed getting to know their teachers Mrs Grace and Mrs Browne. Each day the children have had fun making friends , learning and playing both inside classroom and outside in the reception learning and play area."

Mrs Dooley is Headteacher at Lacey Green Academy Primary, where they have 60 children in reception this year.

She said "This year's reception have settled in very well and extremely quickly. They are a lovely and talented cohort of children and we are looking forward to getting to know them over the forthcoming weeks. We have a fun packed year of fabulous activities planned for the children which are fun, challenging and engaging."
