Creepy goings on at local libraries

The Creepy House Summer Reading Challenge, which began in July, has succeeded in capturing the imaginations of many local children.

As part of the challenge, Handforth Library and Wilmslow Library both hosted Zoo Lab Session this week, which were tailored around the Creepy House Theme.

Sue Tunney from Handforth Library explained, "It gave the children an opportunity of learning about, meeting and touching creatures they might encounter in the Creepy House.

"A great time was had by all and the star of the show was Mr Fluffy, the tarantula spider, but because he was in a particularly lively mood, he had to remain in his container."

The children also met a cockroach, a landsnail, a millipede, a rat and a snake.

More fun events are planned for the coming weeks with a Creepy Craft and Games Session at Wilmslow Library on Tuesday 13th August, and Handforth Library on Thursday 15th August. Children can go along and enjoy the spooky cut and stick activities, which include making masks, spooky spiders, crazy pictures and playing some fun, ghoulish games.

Also Bat Expert Ged Ryan will be visiting both libraries on Tuesday, 27th August. Further details about these events can be found in our event calendar.

Sue Tunney aded "It isn't too late to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge – challenging children to read six books over the summer holidays. There are stickers and activity sheets to collect at the end of the three stages and once completed, an invite is given to attend an award ceremony in September to be presented with a medal and certificate from Councillors Barry Burkhill and Dennis Mahon."
