Distraction thief targets Wilmslow bar

Local residents and businesses are urged to be vigilant as distraction thieves continue to operate in Wilmslow.

Last year there was a spate of distraction thefts when men and woman, described as being of Eastern European appearance, targeted local bars, hairdressers, beauty salons and coffee shops where they are using distraction techniques to steal iPhones.

On Friday, 22nd March, an iPhone was stolen off a table at the Slug and Lettuce on Water Lane.

The incident happened at 6.15pm when an Indian man, who didn't appear to speak English, distracted a couple with a leaflet and then immediately walked out, taking the phone with him.

Sgt Andy Miller said: "People should take basic steps to protect themselves such as keeping personal items out of sight and secure. Be aware of those around you and report suspicious activity to police."

If you notice anything suspicious, please call Wilmslow Police on 101, alternatively information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
