Stories of trauma which led to discovery of Christian faith

St John's Lindow is hosting two special guests this month who have both experienced devastating trauma in their lives, but would now say that those experiences have helped to shape them, bringing them to discover the reality and depth of Christian faith.

For each evening St John's church rooms will be transformed into a 'jazz café', with live music and a bar.

Philippa Skinner, telling 'A mother's story: drugs, grief & hope', will be the guest on Friday 8th February. Philippa's youngest son, Jim, died of a heroin overdose in 2007 when he was only 21 and Philippa has recently written a book about her experience called 'See You Soon' She is married to a vicar and lives on the Wirral.

The second evening is 'A soldier's story: bullets, bombs & belief' when the guest will be Peter Moore. Peter was a sergeant in the army when he was injured in the Guildford pub bombing, in the 1970's. Amazingly that proved to be part of his journey to faith. He now lives in Manchester and gets involved in helping prisoners in HMP Strangeways. He will be interviewed on Saturday 9th February.

Rev Simon Gales, vicar of St John's said 'We've had a few evenings like this in the past and they've been good fun, with live music from a trio of young jazz musicians. It's always interesting to hear how someone has come to a personal faith, and the difference that has made. Each evening there's a talk explaining how the Christian faith is relevant for everyone, so I'd encourage anyone to come along.

"There's no need to book beforehand -its relaxed and informal'

Each evening begins at 7.30pm, at St John's Church Rooms, Knutsford Road, SK9 6EL.
