Wilmslow residents are amongst those who have been recognised in the New Year Honours List.

The New Year's Honours List 2013, published today in recognition of the achievements and service of extraordinary people, includes several local residents.

A Special Honours List to recognise our Olympians, Paralympians, and the most successful coaches, following Team GB's unprecedented success at the London 2012 Games, includes a CBE for Olympic Keirin gold medallist Victoria Pendleton for services to cycling.

Cycling pilot Craig MacLean, who won gold at the 2012 Paralympics with his cycling partner Anthony Kappes in the men's tandem sprint for the blind and visually impaired, received an MBE for services to cycling and Paralympic sport.

Others honoured include Philip Shapiro, who has been appointed MBE for his services to arts. Mr Shapiro stepped down as chair of the board at Cornerhouse, Manchester's international centre for contemporary visual arts and independent film, earlier this year after 15 years in the role.

Dr Hariprakash Mamtora, Consultant Radiologist at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, also received a MBE for services to the NHS.
