Having previously been named regional winner in the Action for Market Towns 2012 Awards, the Wilmslow Artisan Market has now picked up a national accolade.
Organisers Denise Valente and Vicky Jackson were announced winners of the 'Highly Transferable Award' for Business and the Economy.
Television personality Dr David Starkey presented them with the national award at the Action for Market Towns award ceremony in Kendal on Thursday, 18th October.
The highly transferable awards are given to projects that have the most potential to be implemented in other towns across the country.
Chris Wade of Action for Market Towns said: "The Artisan Market gives visitors an experience which they could not get from out-of-town shopping centres nor online: the opportunity to communicate face to face with a specialist, someone who is passionate about what they do. This passion is infectious! It has clearly received phenomenal support from businesses and residents and has resulted in a substantial increase in footfall and business takings."
Denise told wilmslow.co.uk "Vicky and I were totally overwhelmed when we received this national recognition. It made all the long hours and early mornings totally worthwhile. We hope that this will mean many more towns across the UK can benefit from what we have achieved here in Cheshire.
"It certainly has put Wilmslow on the destination map which is what we set out to attain all those months ago. Knutsford, Handforth and Middlewich have all been outstanding successes - a true testament to the award!"
Denise and Vicky are looking forward to showcasing their award winning Artisan Market in Handforth again on Saturday 10th November and Wilmslow on Saturday 17th November.
