Plans are well underway to create a Jubilee Wood in the town park.
Wilmslow Town Council bought a Royal Oak sapling from the Sandringham Estate earlier this year with the intention of planting it in The Carrs during the Jubilee celebrations in June.
Town Clerk Matthew Jackson said "We were considering planting the tree as part of the Jubilee event but at the time we were struggling to identify an area for the Jubilee Wood and it was too early in the year to plant the tree."
They also applied to the Woodland Trust for one of their free tree packs to help create a Jubilee Wood, but this is not expected to arrive until the Spring.
Matthew Jackson explained that the Town Council has been discussing a potential site for the tree with Cheshire East Council, Friends of the Carrs and Transition Wilmslow for some time and they have now identified a site.
Following a public consultation in the summer, Cheshire East Council is planning to build two new tennis courts close to the play area in The Carrs, to replace the existing worn out facilities.
The area currently occupied by the tennis courts will be landscaped and a Jubilee Wood will be created behind the current tennis courts.
Town Clerk Matthew Jackson said "A small amount of planting will take place in November, as we have enough trees to start the Jubilee Wood, and the oak tree will form the centrepiece. The Jubilee Wood will then be enhanced and made bigger in the Spring next year."
