A 20-year-old was threatened with a hammer and assaulted during a street robbery in Wilmslow this week.
The victim was walking alone along Church Street at around 11.40pm on Wednesday, 5th September. As she approached Waitrose, which was on the opposite side of the road, she looked behind her and saw a man in dark clothing.
She continued to walk along Church Street and kept looking at the man who was walking behind her. He then disappeared, possibly into the church grounds.
The woman continued along the road and crossed the bridge onto Chancel Lane near The Carrs park. The same man appeared from the church grounds infront of her and walked towards her.
She was then threatened with a hammer as he told her to hand over her bag. He made a grab for her bag but she pushed him away. A struggled ensued and she fell to the floor.
He assaulted the woman and eventually managed to take her bag before making off.
The offender is described as white, 5ft 10ins tall with a thin build and a pale complexion.
He had a local accent and was wearing a black coat with the hood up.
DC Tim Humpage said: "Thankfully despite falling to the floor she didn′t suffer any injuries. However she was left shaken and distressed by her ordeal.
"We would appeal to anyone who may have seen a man matching the description walking along Church Street and then Chancel Lane to contact us. We would also appeal to anyone who saw a man and woman struggling with each other in the street to come forward.
"We are checking CCTV and carrying out house to house enquiries in order to try and locate the offender. Incidents of this nature are rare in Wilmslow and patrols have increased in the area to provide reassurance."
