We have been contacted by residents from both Wilmslow and Alderley Edge this week complaining about the 'foul stench' which has been in the air for several days.
The smell has been reported in both Wilmslow and Alderley Edge and has been particularly noticeable with the warmer weather, when people want to open their windows and sit outside.
Clive Elliott asked "Does anybody know what the obnoxious smell around Alderley Edge is? - it has invaded our senses since Saturday and is still there on Monday night. Is it mushroom manure? Who has created it and where? Does it contravene public health and/or pollution regulations?"
Ann Adamson contacted us to ask "Can someone explain the terrible smell that has been lingering in the air around Wilmslow for the last few days. Surely this can't be healthy for the residents."
We understand the smell is as result of muck spreading in the surrounding fields.
Steve Marshall commented "They have "muck spread" the fields behind Netherfields, but the wind brings it as far as the village. I'm a chef at the De Trafford and it comes through the vents into the kitchen....not pleasant!!"
Marc Asquith added "We live on the edge of countryside - it's normal farm practice to spread muck - next people will be complaining about cocks crowing and sheep pooing in the fields :-))))) It's a great smell to remind us of our great good fortune to live in such a rural environment."
