George Osborne opens Handforth housing development

MP George Osborne was in Handforth last week to visit a new housing trust development.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer officially opened Hunter's Gate on Friday, 20th July, which contains 36 two bedroom apartments available for affordable rent.

The Peaks and Plans development on Southacre Drive cost £3.7 million, of which £1.8 million was grant money from the Government's Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

It marks the completion of the first development for Peaks & Plains outside of Macclesfield and is a significant milestone in the organisation's commitment to creating more than 200 new homes in the next three years.

The scheme, Hunters Gate, has been named in fond memory of Glenn Hunter, who was a TrustFix operative at Peaks & Plains and sadly passed away in June 2010. Glenn's family and colleagues joined George Osborne MP for the launch, to mark the fact that his name will live on for generations to come in the local area.

Commenting on the event, chief executive of Peaks & Plains, Tim Pinder, said: "We are incredibly proud of Hunters Gate. This is an area of significant local housing need, and we have already allocated all of the apartments to local people. I hope that our new residents will be very happy here."

George Osborne said "It was an honour to be there for the opening of Hunters Gate. It is a great project which will provide much needed housing for the people of Handforth."
