Thieves steal Age UK charity bags

Bags filled with donations for charity have been stolen in Wilmslow.

A resident in the Alveston Drive area of town put out a charity bag for Age UK on Tuesday, 29th May. A white van marked 'Clothes Aid' collected the bag at around 7.45am this morning along with other bags which had been left along the roadside.

The resident asked for his bag back and looked inside the van to find it was full of Age UK bags. He then rang Age UK who told him they had not authorised this collection by another company.

The driver is described as Eastern European and not speaking much English.

Cheshire Police are advising residents that if they wish donations to go to the charity of your choice then please take them along to the local charity shop to stop this type of theft occurring.

The registration number of this van began NG54.

I think this happens a lot and it was exposed on TV tonight. A few months ago we left three bags out for the British Heart Foundation our gift aid donor ID was written on each bag. As we normally hear from the Foundation when items have been sold and to date have heard nothing we are convinced that they never reached them.
