Organisations set out stalls to promote their work

The Animal Sanctuary will be having a stall at the Artisan Market on Saturday to help raise awareness and funds for their urgent appeal to save the charity.

The Humane Education Society, who run the Newgate sanctuary, will be holding 'Guess the name of the bunny' and 'Guess the number of eggs in the nest' competitions, as well as a tombola and there will be a variety of items for sale.

However, the highlight will be Teabag, their Shetland pony, who will be making an appearance around 11am and will be at Bank Square for several hours.

Celia Reed, a volunteer at the sanctuary, said "We are attending the market as part of an ongoing, intensive fundraising campaign to save the sanctuary. We wish to make as much money as possible (of course), raise awareness of the sanctuary and advertise the fact that we are now selling donated items on eBay, so unwanted clothes etc would be very welcome.

"We need to raise £75,000 this year if the sanctuary is to continue in its present form. Selwyn Demmy generously donated £1000 and will be involved with our fundraising but, contrary to the headline in the Wilmslow Express, he has not 'saved' the sanctuary so far."

For further information about the work of The Humane Education Society, the animals that are available for adoption and ways in which you can support the charity visit The Animal Sanctuary website.

Organiser Denise Valente said "This week's market is set to be quite eventful we hope – in addition to the Animal Sanctuary we are supporting two other charitable/voluntary organisations, giving each a free platform to promote their work to the crowds attending the market. A huge promotional opportunity to these groups that do not have advertising nor marketing funds available."

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) Community First Responder Group will also be at the market.

Denise added "They are looking to recruit new local volunteers who give their time freely to help save lives in their community. First Responders provide support to the regular Ambulance Service by attending serious and life threatening 999 calls in and around the community to provide the earliest possible intervention for patients in the first few minutes until the arrival of an ambulance."

Thirdly, the National Trust will also be attending to promote their local events and amenities at Styal Country Park and Quarry Bank Mill.

In addition to these groups ImagineFM who will be broadcasting live from the market and an acoustic guitarist will be performing.

The Wilmslow Artisan Market will be held on Grove Street and Bank Square with over 120 traders from 10am until 4pm on Saturday, 21st April.

Hopefully there will be a box for collection of donated Felix vouchers, animal food tins and decent items for re-sale.
I look forward to meeting TeaBag & Celia tomorrow.
