Wilmslow Town Council has agreed to write a "stiff letter" to Network Rail requesting that they spend some money on improvements at Wilmslow Station.

Cllr Ruth McNulty, Vice-Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council, who sits on the Wilmslow Station sub group, described the station as "very shabby and in need of a lot of work".

Northern Rail, principle users of the station, have committed to spend in the region of £250,000 upgrading facilities at the station. They have recently carried out some work to the ticket office and will be cladding the under path leading up to the two platforms.

Now councillors are calling on Network Rail to also dip their hands in their pockets and contribute to much needed improvements.

Cllr Jim Crockett, Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council, said "When you arrive in Wilmslow from Manchester it is not a very welcoming walk, it needs brushing up a bit."

Cllr Paul Barton added "It is very important, we don't want people's first impression to be that Wilmslow is run down and tired."

Councillors agreed to write to Network Rail expressing their concern about the condition of the platforms in particular and also write to the providers of a survey, which is currently being carried out at the station, to express their views and request the results of the survey once complete.

i feel the parking area at the front of the station always looks untidy with litter cigarette buts. this i put down to the vast amount of taxis that take up all the parking in the middle and around the edges of the car park one day i counted 28 taxis leaving no spaces for the general public to park.
