Healthy recognition for Pownall Hall School

silver 4

Pownall Hall School has been awarded the Food for Life Partnership Silver Award for its healthy and climate-friendly food culture, providing the children with healthy food as well as reinforcing food quality and education.

Only 10 schools in the whole of the northwest of England have achieved this award.

Mr Jonathan Hall, Headmaster said "We are extremely pleased and proud to gain our silver award. Everyone has worked hard especially our catering team and science department. Mrs Jane Ingham our catering manager has led the challenge through her enthusiasm and involved the rest of the school community. Everyone has benefitted and our school lunches are wonderful.

"We continue to encourage our pupils in cooking and growing food. Our own growing area is a huge source of interest with the children and we have all enjoyed eating our very own vegetables. We believe all children should know where their food comes from, how its produced and why healthy food is important. The school also gives every pupil the opportunity to visit a farm, cook and participate in food growing activities during his or her time at school."

"We are now going for gold!"

As part of the food for life criteria, Pownall Hall School offers a selection of locally sourced, free range and organic items and no fish from unsustainable sources is served. The school also has a cooking and baking club, where the children learn how to prepare and cook their favourite items on the menu.
