Vigilance urged following suspicious incident in Styal woods

Police are urging the public to be vigilant following a suspicious incident in Styal woods in Wilmslow on Thursday 29th December 2011 some time between 2pm and 2.30pm.

A woman was out walking her dog in the woods when she became aware of a man walking behind her. She stopped to let him past and the man made a comment to her. As he drew level with her he said a further comment insinuating that he could harm her.

The woods was busy at the time so the woman felt safe, but the nature of his comments concerned her enough to phone police later that evening.

The offender is described as a white male of stocky build and medium height.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who has found themselves in a similar circumstance, to contact Wilmsow CID quoting incident number 35 of 30/12/2011 on 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

DC Jim Bowbeer who is leading the investigation said: "While no crime has been committed it has concerned us enough to ask the local community to exercise awareness and vigilance for their personal safety.
