Wilmslow woman dies after being hit by train

A woman from Wilmslow was struck by a train on New Year's Day.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the scene close to Alderley Edge station at 4.35pm on Sunday, 1st January, where the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The inquest has not been opened yet so the woman who died cannot be named. However, BTP have confirmed that she was in her 50's and from Wilmslow.

The train involved was the 12pm service travelling from Plymouth to Manchester Piccadilly.

A BTP spokesman said "Officers from BTP attended the incident which was reported to the police at 4.35pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Paramedics also attended the woman, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A file will be prepared for the coroner."
