Volunteers needed for park clean up

Volunteers are required to help give the town park a through clean-up.

Organised by Friends of the Carrs (FOTC) and the Rangers, the annual litter pick and clean up will take place at The Carrs on Saturday May 7th. All tools, gloves and tuition will be provided so people are required to just turn up and donate two hours of their time to spruce up the area.

Colin Shepherd, Chairman of FOTC, said "This year the litter pick is later than normal as we thought it would be a good idea to wait until after all the public holidays so that the place is not 're-littered' immediately after we have been round.

"The more people the better and if enough people turn up we will also make a start on the annual attack on the Himalayan Balsam which will be several inches higher given the later date."

The Friends of the Carrs have also organised Balsam Bashes on Sunday June 19th and Sunday July 24th.

Whilst the Balsam looks attractive it grows very quickly and smoothers all the other plants, preventing them from growing.

Colin said "The beauty of the Balsam Bash is that no experience or skills are required, just a willingness to hack down or pull out the plant. It is not often you can be destructive with official approval and it is a very satisfying way of letting off steam and working out frustrations."

Again all equipment will be provided so volunteers just need to meet at the Parish Hall car park at 2pm.
