Cold weather frustrates Wilmslow Town juniors

Wilmslow Town weekend 22nd January

It was ‘whatever the weather’ for most of Wilmslow Town’s junior sides last weekend, and a frustrating morning at home for the rest as frozen pitches took their toll. Only three of Saturday’s fixtures survived.

The U9 Jaguars re-engaged with Fletcher Moss Rangers who had inflicted an 8-0 defeat on the Jaguars in their Division One debut.

The Jaguars went into the game with limited expectations, but delivered a fantastic performance to delight coaches and watching parents. Max McEwan-Patterson and Dante Vitale scored the goals in a 2-1 away win; Joe White was Man of the Match.

The U9 Cougars also managed to beat the cold and welcomed Wythenshawe Town to Lacey Green School. Man of the Match Callum Livingston, Callum Lovatt, Archie Gozem and Ben Mail found the back of the net in a resounding 5-1 win.

The only U10 fixture to survive the weather saw the Jaguars take on North Trafford Athletic. In a hard fought affair played in difficult conditions, Wilmslow gained and then lost the lead before equalising for a 2-2 draw. Jack Kindsey and Rob Lowe were on target for the Jaguars.

Twenty-four hours later it was business as usual for Wilmslow’s title-chasing sides.

The U16s extended their winning streak with a 5-4 win over Broadheath Central. Goals from George Gibson-Smith (2), Danny Judge, David McBride and Jack Holmes helped the U16s reverse a 1-4 half-time deficit with a stirring second half comeback. Will Swift was Man of the Match.

The U15s took a break from league action to book their cup semi-final place with a 4-2 away win against Lymm Rovers Kestrals. Joe Swindells scored a hat-trick - taking his season total to 28. Edward Whatson added the fourth and ‘keeper Harry Stobart was awarded Man of the Match.

A ten-man U14 side took on Dean’s Youth in Division One at the Jim Evison fields. All four goals in a 2-2 draw came in the first half. Andrew Bundred and Milan Starkie scored for the U14s, Bennett Harris was Man of the Match.

The U13s continued to improve as they recorded their first league victory with a win against Timperley Villa Wasps. Dom Kelly, Liam Bradshaw and Keaton Harrison scored and Joe Clark hit three as the U13s put six past a side six places above them in the league table. Goalkeeper Alex Lowe was awarded Man of the Match in the 6-2 win.

The U12 Panthers beat Roundthorn Rangers 5-2 to move back to within one point of league leaders Stockport Eagles. Two goals for Sam Eyres and Callum McKew and one for Jamie Nugent kept the Rangers at bay as the Panthers overturned a 1-0 half-time score line. ‘TJ’ Jefferis was Man of the Match. The U12 Cougars went down 2-1 away to Lymm Rovers. Emmanuel Hundeyin scored the Cougars’ goal.

The U11 Cougars put in a spirited performance against local rivals Wilmslow Sports Pumas. James Hill and André Persand-Carter netted for the Cougars while Matthew Fox was Man of the Match in their 2-5 away defeat.
