Wilmslow library will close for four weeks on Monday, February 21st to enable essential service improvements to be carried out.
The works will include the installation of a new self-service system designed to speed up the process of issuing and returning borrowed items and allow library staff to offer more advice and assistance throughout the library building.
Cheshire East Council will also be making several internal improvements to the library which will offer a better environment for all customers.
Councillor Andrew Knowles, Cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: "The self-service system will not only make borrowing books and other items much easier and quicker but will allow library staff to be visible and have more time to provide advice and assistance to library users.
"This shows how much we value our libraries in Cheshire East and that we continue to invest in them to improve life opportunities and health for everybody. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause users and appreciate their patience whilst these improvements to service are made."
Cheshire East libraries have recently taken on the work of the Council's customer access service which involves accepting housing benefit forms and issuing travel passes and the improvements in the library should mean there is much better provision for customers requiring this service.
The nearest Customer Service Point available during the closure is Macclesfield Town Hall. Both Alderley Edge and Handforth libraries will operate extended opening hours during the closure with Alderley Edge opening on Mondays from 9.30am to 1pm and Handforth from 9.30am to 1pm on Wednesdays.
Wilmslow library will re-open on Monday, March 21st. No items will be due back during the closed period and borrowers can use their cards in any other Cheshire library in the meantime.
