Nursery closed due to police investigation

Wilmslow Day Nursery has been closed following allegations concerning the treatment of children in their care.

The small, private day nursery is situated on Hawthorn Lane in a two storey, detached property. It caters for children from 3 months to 5 years and is run by Lorraine Wroe and Jenny Scott.

An Ofsted spokesperson said "Ofsted has been made aware of concerns about issues relating to child protection at Wilmslow Day Nursery, Hawthorn Lane. As a result, and in order to remove any potential for harm to children, Ofsted has suspended the registration of the nursery and the setting cannot operate at present.

"Ofsted is liaising with the police and local authority in carrying out its investigation. Ofsted will consider the position on the suspension when the risk of harm to children has been fully established."

Cheshire Police have confirmed that "Concerns have been raised regarding the management and welfare of children at Wilmslow Day Nursery. The investigation led by Cheshire Police and supported by Cheshire East and Ofsted remains in its early stages in order to determine whether any criminal offences have taken place."

Ofsted would not confirm the nature of the allegations but they have written to the parents informing them that the nursery's registration has been suspended.
