Cheshire East Council have announced that it is saving twice the amount it expected to save on energy bills this year by reaping the benefits of ‘Invest to Save’ – a scheme to install energy-saving equipment into its offices and buildings in order to cut costs and reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions.

Last year, the Council invested £75,000 to kick-start the Invest to Save scheme across Cheshire East, aiming to save £25,000 in energy bills and more than 200 tonnes of CO2 each year. In reality, the Authority is on target to save £50,000, twice as much as it expected.

Savings of £11,800 have been made at Wilmslow Leisure Centre alone, thanks to automatic lighting controls being fitted in sports halls, dance studios, squash courts and changing rooms.

In Macclesfield savings of £17,313 have been made at the Town Hall, thanks to automatic lighting controls in all rooms, which have reduced electricity bills by 16% and the fitting of new boiler controls which control the temperature and hot water better.

Also at Macclesfield Leisure Centre the Council have saved £6,300 by fitting automatic lighting controls in dance studios and squash courts and installing a Voltage Optimisation unit, which has already reduced consumption by 10% with projected savings of £10,000 a year.
