Cheshire East celebrate gold at RHS Tatton

Cheshire East Council are celebrating having won a gold medal for their display at this year's RHS Tatton Park Show. Their exhibit 'Cheshire Cheese Please', in the flowerbed competition, features a giant cheeseboard made entirely of flora and fauna.

The cheeseboard features a red and white begonia rug laid on a green grass floor with a Cheshire cheese wedge of yellow marigolds sitting on top and a cheese knife created by local artist Richard Wainwright.

A cheeky cat sculpture sneaking up on a greedy little mouse completes the scene and next-door to the display is Cheshire East Council's cheese trail which pays homage to the Borough's rich cheese-making history.

Cheshire East Councillor Jamie Macrae, Cabinet member for prosperity, said "The RHS Flower Show Tatton Park is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the Cheshire East calendar and vital to boosting tourism. It shows Cheshire at its best, attracting more than 100,000 visitors each year.

"Once again, those behind Cheshire East Council's flowerbed have shown innovation, dedication and a sense of fun – the display is credit to their hard-work.

"Cheshire cheese has a long and much-loved history in this area and its success and longevity is being clearly celebrated through the 'trail'.

"I would like to urge everyone who is planning to attend RHS Tatton to take a look at Cheshire East Council's display and see what is on offer."

Second photo shows: Cheshire East Council head of regeneration, Caroline Simpson, Michael Brown who grew the flowers at Cheshire East Council's propagation unit in Congleton, Cheshire East Mayor, Gordon Baxendale, Landscape Officer Kathy Swindells and Cheshire East Council's Chief Executive, Erika Wenzel.
