Princess of Wales visits Styal Prison

The Princess of Wales visited Styal women's prison on Tuesday 11th February.

In her role as Patron, Action for Children, Kate visited the Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) to highlight the importance of strong, loving and consistent mother and baby relationships to a child's development.

The MBU, which is run by Action for Children, provides a dedicated place for new and expectant mothers serving a prison sentence or on remand.

During her visit, the Princess met with staff and former residents to hear about the support provided including nursery provision, targeted interventions and parenting support for the on-site
mothers.

Her Royal Highness also visited the on-site nursery to see where babies and children living on site can learn and play. Finally, The Princess will met a group of current prisoners on the MBU to hear about how the charity is supporting them and their babies.
