Wilmslow Town Council fund additional gritting route

Pinewood Road has recently been added to Cheshire East Council's winter gritting routes, following funding from Wilmslow Town Council.

Cheshire East Council has pre-planned gritting routes which are treated by their fleet of gritters when icy conditions are forecast. These roads are prioritised in line with the allocated Cheshire East Council budget and roads will only be gritted on these routes.

Pinewood Road did not qualify as a gritting route by Cheshire East but, as a main, arterial road into the Summerfields estate with no alternative, Wilmslow Town Council agreed that adding it to the gritting routes was a priority.

Gritting Pinewood Road will cost the Town Council £1,059 per year, as part of a 3-year contract with Cheshire East Council.

Other Cheshire East Council gritting routes that are funded by Wilmslow Town Council are Lacey Green, Barlow Road, Twinnies Road and Holly Bank Road.

Wilmslow Town Mayor, Councillor Tim Higgins, said, "The Town Council agreed that gritting Pinewood Road, to allow the area's many residents to get both in and out of the estate safely, was of upmost importance.

"Cheshire East Council's winter maintenance team work around the clock to keep our roads safe during icy conditions and we are pleased to be able to apply our local knowledge in the funding of additional routes. Thank you to Cllr Lata Anderson for putting together the proposal for this additional gritting route, and the winter maintenance team for their hard work."

Well done Wilmslow Town Council, putting the welfare of Wilmslow residents as a priority. This is just one example of the benefits of having "Residents of Wilmslow" councillors acting for our local community especially as no other group previously gave the slightest thought for our town's people.
