Vacancy for town councillor to represent Dean Row Ward

A vacancy has arisen for a councillor in the Dean Row Ward following the resignation of Dion Cross for health reasons.

An election to fill the vacancy will be held if ten electors for the said Electoral area give notice to the Returning Officer requesting such an election within 14 days (excluding Saturdays Sundays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday or a Bank Holiday) of the date of the Town Council's notice.

The notice was dated 20th March 2024 (unfortunately I only became aware of this today) so 7 days have already passed.

The address of the Returning Officer is: The Returning Officer, Cheshire East Council, Delamere House, Delamere Street, Crewe, CW1 2JZ

If no such notice is given the Town Council will fill the vacancy by co-option.

Dion Cross was elected as a Residents of Wilmslow candidate in May 2023.

For further advice on procedure call the Elections Office at Cheshire East Council 01270 685922.

Well there seem to be an awful lot of people in Wilmslow with opinions and views that they can do a better job than the town council, so I'm sure there will be an avalance of applications.
On a serious note, I wish Dion well in his recovery and hope that it hasn't affected his desire to help the community too much.

As Chair of WTC Planning Committee I would like to thank Dion for his work on behalf of his Dean Row Constituents and wish him all the very best for his recovery.
I hope he might sometime in the future be able to consider returning to the council if the opportunity arises. Cllr Jon Kelly.
