Firefighters were called to a fire at the former County Hotel just before 7.30pm on Wednesday, 20th September.
The police were informed and arrived shortly afterwards as the fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
The fire involved a small wooden external canopy at the front of the disused building at Harden Park, which was quickly extinguished using a hose reel jet.
Early this month I reported that work is finally going to start on redeveloping the site of the former County Hotel which has been vacant since its closure in November 2009.
Since then the site has been derelict, the building has fallen into a sorry state of decline and has previously been subject to a number of incidences of vandalism, including deliberate fires, and theft over the years.
A police spokesperson said "The incident is believed to be suspicious and anyone with any information is asked to Contact Cheshire Police on 101, or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, quoting IML 1649746."
