Local residents were bombarded with pink balloons as democracy campaigners targeted Wilmslow town centre. Voters in what is considered to be the safe Conservative constituency of Tatton were asked to sign a letter addressed to likely MP George Osborne calling for him to agree to democratic reform and cleaning up politics.

The event formed part of a nationwide campaign to encourage voters and politicians to sign the Power 2010 pledge to reform politics.

Mischa Wilmers, a North West campaigns officer, said "Power2010 is a grassroots campaign for political reform. We have been asking voters across the country to pick what needs changing the most to restore public trust in politicians post the expenses crisis. Over 100,000 votes were cast for the five ideas which form the centrepiece of the campaign for the General Election.

"Today we will head to Osborne's constituency office before presenting him with the letter which has already been signed by over 100 of his constituents."

The top 5 democratic reforms chosen by the public to form the core of the campaign are; the introduction of a proportional voting system, scrapping ID cards and rolling back the database state, a fully elected second chamber, English votes on English laws and a Written Constitution to protect the peoples rights.
