A number of local roads remain closed today due to flooding overnight.

These include

  • A34 Wilmslow Bypass between Prestbury Road and Alderley Road
  • Station Road, Wilmslow
  • Cliff Road, Wilmslow
  • A538 Wilmslow Road in Mottram St Andrew between Withinlee Road and Priest Lane
  • Styal Road, Wilmslow at Twinnies Bridge

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said "We're working to make these roads safe so that they can be reopened – please bear with us and plan your journey."

Additionally, the A555 Manchester Airport Relief Road is closed between Styal Road and Bramhall Oil Terminal in both directions due to flooding.

Wilmslow to be re-imagined as the Venice of North West England.

In an astounding and ambitious new project, Cheshire officials have announced that Wilmslow will be linked to the rest of the civilized world via a series of canals.

"We’ve tried creating a road network” said local representative Quentin Hercules-Mongoose, “but frankly, it’s all a bit too wet. I know some people will criticize us for not being able to do what the Romans could do 2000 years ago, with no power tools, heavy machinery, hard hats or hi-viz vests, but to these people I say, think of the ducks.
For those worried about commuting there’ll be a regular Gondola service to Alderley Edge and we’re stockpiling Cornetto’s.

However as a council that takes the climate emergency seriously and in-line with our stringent environmental policies, we’re encouraging people to swim, snorkel or paddle to work wherever possible and reduce their carbon flipper print”.

Given the serious flooding status elsewhere around town this morning I was pleasantly surprised to find that the expected customer boat moorings were not in evidence outside adjacent to Sainsburys.

@ Julian,
Perhaps Mel Sykes could re-enact her famous Boddingtons Gondola Ad to promote business...
If it wasn't so sad and repetitive... it really would be funny.. !! .. Well done for bringing a bit of humour to a blatantly ignored repeat situation...

Point of Order, Mr Jones: Gladys Althorpe was played by Anna Chancellor in the gondola advert; she was the second "Boddingtons girl" ) the first being Debbie Carr).
Melanie Sykes was the third lady to appear in the series.

Not many people know that. ;-)

Further to my previous comment & after walking down a gridlocked Alderley Road this morning it occurred to me that perhaps the road's alternative name should be The Wilmslow Bypass Bypass,

For completeness could CEC change the speed limit signs to indicate kph instead of mph?
