Ancient tradition raises £9000 for local hospice

A group fundraisers revived an ancient tradition for the third year to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice, whilst also enabling people to learn more about the town.

Organised by the Wilmslow Support Group of East Cheshire Hospice, their aim is to bring together various parts of the local community for a fun day out whilst working together to raise money.

Over 150 people took part in a Beating the Bounds sponsored walk around the boundaries of the parish on Sunday, 19th May, with approximately 20 completing the 15 mile run, 90 doing the 15 mile walk and a further 40 took part in the 8 mile walk.

Organiser Ned Spencer said "A lot of work went in to organising the day but it was worth it to hear people say how much they enjoyed it. Plus together we raised about £9,000 for East Cheshire Hospice and money is still coming in so this could increase further!"

One participant said "Hi Ned, Just to say a big thank you for a superb and well organised BtB walk yesterday, I really enjoyed it and we were blessed with perfect weather cool and cloudy on the walk and brilliant sunshine at the end.
Congratulations to all the volunteers involved. I plan to do the one next year."

Wonderful event. Beautifully organised and really well received by the participants. I wonder if the organisers realise that there are now people coming from the Scottish Borders and Yorkshire to take part, quite the attraction for Wilmslow.
