Plan to create flats above retail unit approved

Plans to convert the upper floors of a four storey retail premises into residential units have been approved.

The scheme involves changing the use of first and second floors of 11 Grove Street, which was occupied by an art gallery until its closure at the end of last year, to enable 2 one-bedroom flats to be created.

A new ground floor lobby will be created to provide access to the residential units.

The rest of the ground floor and basement are to be retained as retail.

Another planning application has been submitted this week to change the use of the first floor at 66 Grove Street (above Sharps) from shop to residential accommodation.

Brilliant. This is just what needs to happen to bring Wilmslow alive. This is what people told us they want to happen during the Neighbourhood Plan public consultation.

Far better that empty first floor space over shop is coverted into (reasonably priced : affordable) homes.

There seem to be quite a few premises around the town centre where the upper floor(s) are out of use. Surely it makes sense to convert more of them for living space?
