Green Room to shine a light on van Gogh's home life

An interesting insight into the domesticity rather than the artistry of Vincent van Gogh, Vincent in Brixton is a dramatized version of what Vincent's life may have been like during his time living in London in the late 1800s.

At one point, he lived in Brixton - Hackford Road to be precise - lodging with a widow, Ursula Loyer and although there is no official record of what actually transpired between the occupants of this dwelling over a century ago, this play puts forward imaginative and entertaining scenarios for this formative period of Vincent's life.

Was his first mental crisis the result of him falling in love with his landlady's daughter, Eugenie, who rejected him? Many believe this to be the case. Nicholas Wright's beautiful 'what if' play imagines the relationships between these characters as they wrestle with love and depression, politics and art.

A fascinating and atmospheric play, Vincent in Brixton is directed by Mike Bullimore and the production runs from Saturday May 13th to Saturday May 20th. The Green Room cast is led by Ash McDowell as Vincent, Anna Sillitoe as Eugenie and Jane Hyde as Ursula.

Tickets are available via the theatre Box Office on 01625 540933 or online.
