Following the decision to extend the successful Cinema in the Carrs concept for 2017, the initial response to the plans for a double bill has demonstrated significant public support.

This year's Cinema on the Carrs is scheduled to take place on Saturday 10th June and will include the addition of an afternoon 'matinee' film aimed at the younger family audience followed by the main feature in the evening.

Members of the public were asked to vote for their chosen films and invited to choose from Toy Story, The Lion King, Finding Nemo or Madagascar for the matinee performance. For the evening performance, they were invited to select from Dirty Dancing (12A), Back to the Future (PG), Jaws (12A) or Strictly Ballroom (PG).

Over 700 votes were cast for the short-listed films with 'The Lion King' narrowly winning the vote for the afternoon film receiving over a third of the votes and 'Dirty Dancing' (12A) coming out a clear winner for the evening film demonstrating its ongoing popularity in its 30th anniversary year, receiving well over half of the votes.

Councillor Angela McPake, Chairman of the Wilmslow Town Council Events Group said, "Wilmslow Town Council are delighted that our flagship summer event continues to generate such interest and enthusiasm. By providing this free to attend event Wilmslow Town Council hope that the community will assemble in record numbers and enjoy both the main evening feature and the new afternoon concept. If the number of residents voting is anything to go by then it should be a great day."

The event, which takes place on the Carrs on Saturday 10th June is funded and organised by Wilmslow Town Council. This year it will be followed by 'Wilmslow Rocks' a new event organised by the Wilmslow Business events team which will run from 10th to 17th June bringing live music in to the centre of Wilmslow.
