Amy hits the ground running: 518 miles – 7 days – 1 world record

An endurance athlete from Wilmslow is currently completing her second world record challenge.

In 2014 Amy Hughes, 28, took on the mammoth challenge of running 53 marathons in 53 consecutive days in 53 different towns and cities around the UK which earned Amy her first Guinness World Record.

This week she is attempting to break the world record for the most amount of miles on a treadmill in 7 days. The current record is 517 miles and she is aiming for 530 miles which is equivalent to nearly 3 full marathons each day. Amy is on schedule to break the record between 8am and 9am on Thursday morning.

The girl who did not run at all 9 years ago has come a long way and has the support of some of the biggest athletes in the world.

When asked why Amy said "I am just a normal girl and I want to show everyday people that when you set your mind to something you can do it. It is so important to get active for your mind and body and I want people to take this journey with me. After my last challenge, we started the 53 foundation to raise awareness and create opportunities for people with disabilities. This challenge is dedicated to all of those people and I am running for them."

The event is taking place at The Trafford Centre and Amy has lots of people including some famous faces offering support. She recently received a message from her idol and hero Dean Karnazes.

Since Amy's last challenge her life has changed significantly, she has become an athlete for Dame Kelly Holmes trust, been recognised by Pride of Britain awards, named 27th top Britain by the Telegraph, won running moment of the year 2014 and won a rising star award for sport. She also has her own TV show due to air in September.

Speaking about how life has been in the lime light, Amy said "I have been over whelmed by the response from my last challenge. People are always asking me what's next and I still have so many more challenges I want to complete. I love inspiring people to get active and be healthy and I hope my next challenge will help somebody feel they can achieve something they never thought possible."

Amy is aiming to raise £10,000 this week for her charity The 53 Foundations which aims to help people with disabilities to lead a healthy active lifestyle.
